Fujifilm 50-230mm

Now this isn’t going to be a review on sharpness etc, just my thoughts and a little storytelling, so if your looking for graphs and in-depth analysis then this isn’t for you ;)

I’ve always had a kit lens on my cameras. My first Canons I had the 18-55’s but moving over to Fujifilm I decided not go kit lens and buy just the body and start from there.

I actually started with my beloved Fujicron 23mm F2 but found myself wanting more, more zoom, more peaking, more more more.

So I shopped around and was undecided between two Fujifilm lenses:

  • Fuji 55-200

  • Fuji 50-230

I done a lot of research, had a look at them in store and found the one for me.

The Fujifilm 50-230mm, I read a lot that the optics were the same and Fujifilm glass is superb at that anyway, so I thought I’d grab a bargain with the 50-230. At around £160-180 for the OISv2 off eBay, I snapped one up and it came within the next couple of days.

I unwrapped it like a kid at Christmas and ran outdoors and started zooming in on birds sitting on lampposts, wow, I loved it.

I find myself strapping this to my camera whenever I head into nature as everything seems a bit further away than it does in towns and cities. I try to have a minimal kit and I’m more than comfortable and confident in taking this 50-230 as it gives me everything I need in one lens for this outings.

It feels just right sitting on my X-S10 and doesn’t seem too big at all. It gives you that extra reach and you don’t need to break the bank to experience this. I bought this knowing that I’d be experimenting with it to see if I really needed the extra reach, turns out I really like it and is a welcome addition to the kit.

If your looking for an introduction into the telephoto world within the Fujifilm system then this could be the lens for you.
