The salt of the earth

Holy F***king Sh*t….

The Salt of the Earth….

The photography documentary that changed my life….

So for me there’s a few things in life that inspire me, there’s songs, tastes of food or films…And let me tell you that this film about the famous photographer Sebastiao Salgado changed the way I want to take photos, changed the way I want to see the world and inspired me to a degree I wasn’t even aware that I could get inspired.

Now as much as I want you to read this blog post, if you haven’t watched this documentary then I suggest you go and watch it right now, then come back to this post obviously :)

So I won’t go into too much detail about the premise of the film but its essentially a documentary about a photographer who has the spent the past 40 years photographing the world and let me tell you, the photo’s and the stories presented are unreal, mind blowing in fact that these images were even captured.

Here is some of his work..

I mean come on, look at those photos!

So why and how did it inspire me?

First of all i’ve always liked black and white photography but seeing his work with black and white just got me hyped, like eyes wide open, jaw gapingly hyped.

The way he was able to capture such emotion, such depth, such a story in one image was beyond my comprehension.

It’s inspired me to shoot more black and white, to try and capture and bring the photo to life without colour, I believe, is such an art.

So, from now on I will be shooting a lot more black and white!
